Interview: Rozu

DutchMetalManiac’s Tim van Velthuysen recently interviewed Rozu’s vocalist Tim Graham.

Hey, how are you?

We are doing great! Thank you all for having us.

Can you tell us something about the history of Rozu?

Well, the short version of the story is that myself (Tim) and David (guitars) had a project fall apart like most bands do. We took a break for a while then started just writing music together with really no plan or direction. We eventually had a writing session with our now producer Tyler Ruehl and from there really started finding the sound of Rozu. We later brought in Brian (drums) and Henry (bass) and formed the band.

For people not knowing Rozu (yet), how would you describe your music yourself?

We are a aggressively sad band that rides a fine line between post hardcore and metalcore.

When someone doesn’t know Rozu yet and you can choose one of your songs to present yourself, which song would that be?

Most likely Anchor. It is a fan favorite at this point and is a very fun and energetic song. It really shows our diversity of metal within just one song.

What makes Rozu unique?

I really just think our strategy of growth is unique along with our sound. Every song is different, but it all has the Rozu sound where a lot of bands find a formula and kind of stick to it. Along with that our strategy of singles to give fans new material constantly is a unique way of going about things in the industry for new bands.

Any future plans you can already tell us something about?

A lot of touring and a debut album is on its way!

Any upcoming gigs for Rozu? Maybe coming to The Netherlands?

We have/had a pretty full summer with shows. Currently we are waiting to see what way the industry is going with this virus outbreak. The Netherlands is absolutely near the top of our list for places we want to go!

How do you think your life would be without music?

I’d still be in music to be honest. I love the business aspect of the industry and studied that in college so when I’m not on stage or in a studio I am doing artist management stuff and recently started a label with our producer.

What advice would you give to young and starting bands?

Plan everything out and take your time. Make it worth your while and just drop music and feel like everything is going to just come to you. Do the work and grind.

Thanks for your answers! Is there anything you want to say to DutchMetalManiac’s readers?

For fans old and new alike, thank you so much for the love and support we receive, we appreciate you all!
