Interview: Hasswut

Earlier this year the Spanish metallers of Hasswut released their new album, titled Atomkrieg, which DutchMetalManiac’s Henric van Essen reviewed here. Now, he also had an interview with them.

Hello, how are you doing? I hope you’re all safe from the Corona pandemic?

Good afterrnoon DutchMetalManiac. Fortunately we are all safe as well as our relatives. Now the situation seems to be worse day by day again but time will tell. We are positive and hope everything ends soon.

Up until I got to review your album, I had never heard of you guys. Can you tell us a bit about yourselves and the band?

We started back in 2013 as an studio project just to have fun doing the music we would like to listen to. We talked about not to play live with this band… but after showing our first two singles (Kinderheim and Sexgierig) some venues asked us to play at their cities.

After that all goes its own way, we don’t use to talk very much about our future, we just accept everyting as it comes.

German seems to be the working language in Hasswut, yet you hail from Spain. What is that all about?

We are fans of German NDH, industrial, electro bands,… and their language. German has more power on voices compared to Spanish, so why not to try.

We now it’s not easy to do it as Spanish… but we try to improve our German album by album.

Congratulations with Atomkrieg. The mix of metal and electronic is rather specific and to many people an acquired taste, how did you come to playing this type of music?

We have been listening to industrial and electro music since we were teenagers (more than 30 years ago…), so we are used to that kind of sounds.

Hasswut is not our first industrial band, as we have been playing with the  mixture of electronic and metal music for a long time.

Overall the song titles as well as the lyrics paint a rather grim picture, what inspires you guys where it comes to lyrics?

We are not poets, so our lyrics go directly to the message. There are a lot of things to be said as clear as possible. So our lyrics are inspired by what happens every day and sometimes from our personal metal state.

I can imagine hearing your music live guarantees a great evening, do you have any plans on touring, provided the pandemic allows for it?

All of our plans were broken, as we released Atomkrieg the same day we all were told to stay safe at home. Then our promo, our tour, our merch,…. All was blocked or postponed.

We have rescheduled some dates and we will see how they work. First of them, will be next month for just 65 people due to a new policy on venues. We understand it, they just try to survive as many others so we will manage to do it with 5 or 500 people.

What future plans do you have with Hasswut? Where do you want to be with the band ten years from now?

Not sure. Perhaps we are too old in ten years to go on stage xDD. We never think about the future. About the future we just know where we are going to play because it is already booked… but nothing else.

To close this interview I like to ask you one more question, this time it’s not music- or Hasswut related, at least not directly. If you won the lottery, what would be the first thing you’d buy?

Drugs and alcohol!!

Not really.. Our lives are really simple. For sure we will buy more equipment, and we will invest in building a better studio to record our songs.

For sure we will buy a lot of albums we can’t afford now with our daily jobs.

Thanks for the interview, is there anything else you would like to share with our readers?

Thanks a lot for reviewing our albums. It is not easy to be listened to from other countries because our friends are mainly here.

If any of you want to listen Hasswuts music, you can find it on Spotify, Youtube, Napster,…. and physical copies at our Bandcamp (also merch) or our label’s, Art Gates Records, shop.

We hope to see you all in the future.

Cheers and stay safe
