Interview: Chaoseum

Recently DutchMetalManiac’s Tim van Velthuysen had an interview with Chaoseum’s guitarist Valery Veings.

Hey, how are you?

Hey, I’m fine thank you. I hope you too!

Can you tell us something about the history of Chaoseum?

Loïc and I founded Chaoseum in January 2018. We asked Greg to join us. Our singer CK arrived in February 2019, after our first album and the US tour. We are from Lausanne, in the French part of Switzerland.

For people not knowing Chaoseum (yet), how would you describe your music yourself?

Our music is between heavy metal and metalcore. Our first album First Step To Hell is more heavy metal/metalcore with a female singer. But now, with CK Smile on vocals, we are close to nu metal/metalcore. Like Trivium, Korn or Slipknot.

When someone doesn’t know Chaoseum yet and you can choose one of your songs to present yourself, which song would that be?

I would like to say First Step To Hell with CK on vocals. We re-recorded it in 2019.

What makes Chaoseum unique?

We are not unique. But we play music for the stage. We try to put a lot of energy during our show with a theatrical atmosphere. Everyone in the band have a personal makeup. Nothing is new but it’s our vision. We are also close to our public after the show.

Any future plans you can already tell us something about?

We just finish to shoot a new music video from our next album. This one will available in August 29th. In September 25th, our new album will be out and we will play two release partys in Switzerland. Like many others, our European tour with Fleshgod Apocalypse and Ex-Deo is postponed in fall 2021.

Any upcoming gigs for Chaoseum? Maybe coming to The Netherlands?

Only in Switzerland this year due Covid-19. It’s strange, but I really like The Netherlands (specially your football), but I never played in your country. I hope to come with the band in 2021 and visit one more time Amsterdam and other cities.

How do you think your life would be without music?

A little bit sadly. But I’m lucky, I have a fantastic family and I love to do a lot of things. More sport and my job will be watchmaker. This is one of my formations.

What advice would you give to young and starting bands?

Be sure that everyone have the same goal and availability. And make your dreams come true, but for that you have to work a lot, because you have to do your way in the beginning.
