Interview: Mindwake

Recently, DutchMetalManiac’s Tim van Velthuysen interviewed Mindwake’s bassist Samir.

Hey, how are you?

Hi, pretty fine, hope you too.

Can you tell us something about the history of Mindwake?

Hey, I am Samir, I’m the bassist, to be honest, I will not talk about other band members, because I recently joined the band one or two years ago and the band exists since almost 8 years. Many line up changes, compos modifications, you know, almost all bands stories :).

But I’m sure that we found the best line-up with good harmony.

For people not knowing Mindwake (yet), how would you describe your music yourself?

It’s pretty simple to attribute a style on our music: hardcore/neo metal with many specials and weird effects that makes our style pretty different.

When someone doesn’t know Mindwake yet and you can choose one of your songs to present yourself, which song would that be?

Oh, in my opinion it’s Gaia’s Throne, with no doubt. ^^

What makes Mindwake unique?

For sure, it’s our way to compose some guitar leads and make bass more “slapping” and technical as usual in hardcore and neo metal. Besides that it’s mainly due to the sound effects behind instruments that makes that weird ambiance we love.

Any future plans you can already tell us something about?

New EP and many surprises.

Any upcoming gigs for Mindwake? Maybe coming to The Netherlands?

With this COVID era, it’s hard to exactly say when we will play, but we planned to go on tour when everything will end.

And The Netherlands? Yeah, why not if we go on an European tour.

How do you think your life would be without music?

For other members of the band it maybe impossible to imagine their life without music. For me, the bass player, my life will be full of silence and meditation.

What advice would you give to young and starting bands?

Never give up your goals, when you have an idea, never be afraid of critics, people’s judgement, take pleasure first before to be adapted for people.

Thanks for your answers! Is there anything you want to say to DutchMetalManiac’s readers?

I want to say thank you to bring us your attention, it’s an honor to share with you.
