Interview: Jet Jaguar

Recently, DutchMetalManiac’s Tim van Velthuysen interviewed Jet Jaguar’s bassist Jorge.

Hey, how are you?

Hi, Jorge (bassist) here! I’m doing great, thanks for having me today.

Can you tell us something about the history of Jet Jaguar?

Jet Jaguar was formed in Cancun, Mexico back in 2014, by five 16-17 year old kids just wanting to play some heavy metal. After a couple of years playing local shows and with an EP released, we had the opportunity to represent Mexico at Wacken Open Air’s metal battle in Germany. It was the first time that a Mexican band won the competition. After this achievement, we toured across Europe and Mexico, spent another couple of years performing at important festivals, and then decided that it was time to record our debut album. Endless Nights was released last July 2020 under German label Pride & Joy Music.

For people not knowing Jet Jaguar (yet), how would you describe your music yourself?

I’d say simply metal; because the thing is, we have so far released a demo, an EP, and a full length album, and across these 3 works we have explored speed metal, heavy metal, shredding, hard rock… and perhaps in the future we’ll continue experimenting, but one thing’s for sure, we’ll always keep it metal.

When someone doesn’t know Jet Jaguar yet and you can choose one of your songs to present yourself, which song would that be?

Personally I think I’d show them our song Jet Ranger. I think it encapsulates the sound of Jet Jaguar so far. It is both energetic but also very melodic.

What makes Jet Jaguar unique?

We’re a band that’s always thinking about what will come next. We’re always looking for the next achievement, for new territories to expand our sound, and I think that’s what keep things exciting both for us and for our audience. We don’t like feeling stuck in the same things over and over.

Any future plans you can already tell us something about?

We began writing new songs in January for what will become our second album, we’re excited about that, but we don’t want to rush things either.

Any upcoming gigs for Jet Jaguar? Maybe coming to The Netherlands?

We would love to go back to The Netherlands, and very surely we’ll return as soon as the pandemic is over. We recently began working with a European agency so it’s just a matter of time and patience.

How do you think your life would be without music?

Man, I can’t even imagine one single day without music.

What advice would you give to young and starting bands?

Never stop practicing, make sure you’re with the right bandmates and have a lot of vision of what you want to accomplish.

Thanks for your answers! Is there anything you want to say to DutchMetalManiac’s readers?
