Interview: Holding Poison

Recently, DutchMetalManiac’s Tim van Velthuysen interviewed Holding Poison.

Hey, how are you?

Hello! We are good!

Can you tell us something about the history of Holding Poison?

Although we’ve known each other for years, lockdown 2020 was the kickstart the project needed and the opportunity to finally work on a music project together. Matt found himself thinking of the most productive way to utilise the downtime and decided to bring some of the demos he’d been working on to life. With Jack’s help, this became a reality pretty quickly with the EP taking shape within a matter of a few months.

For people not knowing Holding Poison (yet), how would you describe your music yourself?

It’s hard rock/rock music. Somewhat aggressive and attacking in places but also somewhat soft and more melodic in others. A real mixed bunch in some aspects.

When someone doesn’t know Holding Poison yet and you can choose one of your songs to present yourself, which song would that be?

It’s a tough one as so far everyone seems to have a different favourite however, from a commercial side to ease people in we’d probably say Losing Grip is a good place to start.

What makes Holding Poison unique?

Every band is unique in its own way as everyone has different influences/abilities. We’ve just tried to capture as much of our own influences as possible and blend them with our own styles.

Any future plans you can already tell us something about?

We are filming the whole EP in a live shoot. We are planning on releasing it throughout May so it’s a case of keeping your eyes on our social media pages for more info on that!

Any upcoming gigs for Holding Poison? Maybe coming to The Netherlands?

We haven’t got anything booked just yet as we’ve been seeing what unfolds with COVID. If given the chance we’d love to come and play in The Netherlands!

How do you think your life would be without music?

I think for us both it would be very different, who knows what we’d be doing to occupy our time!

What advice would you give to young and starting bands?

Just enjoy what you are doing, everything becomes so much more effortless if you’re really into what you do!

Thanks for your answers! Is there anything you want to say to DutchMetalManiac’s readers?

You can find our debut EP on all streaming services, come and follow us to keep up to date with what we are doing as we have more new things in the pipeline!
