Interview: Gorethrone

Recently, DutchMetalManiac’s Tim van Velthuysen interviewed Gorethrone.

Hey, how are you?

We are doing great! Thanks for reaching out to us.

Can you tell us something about the history of Gorethrone?

We are a blackened deathcore band from Grand Rapids, Michigan. Our name was originally Behold the Wicked, but when we found our current vocalist, we changed it to Gorethrone, because he brought in the deathcore element.

For people not knowing Gorethrone (yet), how would you describe your music yourself?

I would describe it as melodically heavy. As in we have good melodies between the guitars and we put plenty of breakdowns in there as well.

When someone doesn’t know Gorethrone yet and you can choose one of your songs to present yourself, which song would that be?

It would definitely be Acid Bath, it is one of those songs that just gets stuck in your head which is pretty cool for a metal song.
It is our “more complex” song to play with many changes for all the instruments.

What makes Gorethrone unique?

Probably our melodic way of playing that I don’t hear too much from other bands. They all try to go as heavy as possible and don’t focus too much on melody.
This will be even more apparent once we release our next album, so be sure to give us a follow/like on FB/Spotify/Apple Music/IG for up to date news on that.

Any future plans you can already tell us something about?

Right now we are in the writing process for a full length album that we are trying to release by the end of the year.

Any upcoming gigs for Gorethrone? Maybe coming to The Netherlands?

None to The Netherlands yet, but we are playing a big show with ten bands and two different stages in August, in the city of Detroit, Michigan.

How do you think your life would be without music?

It would definitely be boring and lonely. We’ve met so many people by jamming and playing music and especially meeting the people in my band, who are all friends now.

What advice would you give to young and starting bands?

They don’t have to be the best at their instrument but you really get along with them. That means more than having really talented people, as skill will come regardless.
It’s better to have people you get along with than the best because it’s going to be hard when you start getting out there and touring.

Thanks for your answers! Is there anything you want to say to DutchMetalManiac’s readers?

You guys are awesome! Please feel free to reach out to us any time.
