Interview: Leach

Recently, DutchMetalManiac’s Tim van Velthuysen interviewed Leach.

Hey, how are you?

Great, or at least as good as it can be under these circumstances! Right now there is a lot of preparation for the coming album release.

Can you tell us something about the history of Leach?

Started out 2003 in our early teens at our local youth center. Initial couple of years mainly spent trying to master our instruments and released a bunch of demos. Released first album Blindfold in 2012 and have since then released a few more and been able to travel through Europe and Dubai. Next up will be the release of Lovely Light of Life, which will be released on American label Brutal Records. Hope to be able to tour a lot more when things go back to normal.

For people not knowing Leach (yet), how would you describe your music yourself?

We like to describe it as “Thrash’n’Roll”, a good blend of thrash, hardcore and rock’n’roll elements.

When someone doesn’t know Leach yet and you can choose one of your songs to present yourself, which
song would that be?

I think the opening track Serenade (For the broken brave) is a good choice and because of that, a good opener for the album.

What makes Leach unique?

Even though the core elements are all there, we try to come up with our own way of expressing it. And we can’t come up with any other band that really does what we do. We would like to be one of those bands that are hard to put a label on but are instantly recognisable and owns their own musical expression.

Any future plans you can already tell us something about?

If things clear up with the pandemic. We have an opening slot for The Haunted this fall, which is a huge deal for us. Playing in our hometown, we hope to see a lot of friends we haven’t seen in a while.

Any upcoming gigs for Leach? Maybe coming to The Netherlands?

Some one-off shows during the fall. Some postponed festivals for next year. None in The Netherlands for now but things can change rather quickly, fingers crossed!

How do you think your life would be without music?

Empty of course, been such a huge part of our lives growing up. Not only the music itself but the comradery of all people involved.

What advice would you give to young and starting bands?

Do your own thing and never give up!

Thanks for your answers! Is there anything you want to say to DutchMetalManiac’s readers?

Hope to see you all out on the road sometime! Until then stay safe!
