Recently, DutchMetalManiac’s Tim van Velthuysen interviewed Ohmwork’s vocalist/guitarist Anders L. Rasmussen and bass player Helge Nyrud.

Hey, how are you?

Can you tell us something about the history of Ohmwork?

Nyrud: Very fine indeed. We are a three-piece band formed in 2012. We are now coming with our 5th full length album. It’s titled Pareidolia.

Rasmussen: Over the years toured across the country and been abroad a couple of times. Always trying to stay relevant.

For people not knowing Ohmwork (yet), how would you describe your music yourself?

Nyrud: Our music spans from heavy rock to tip-toing into the realm of prog. We have always liked melodic heavy rock/metal. Inspired from the era of the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s.

When someone doesn’t know Ohmwork yet and you can choose one of your songs to present yourself, which song would that be?

Rasmussen: Our new singles Hill of Tara and Liquid Fire. The new stuff is always the best. For a while anyway.

Nyrud: Hill of Tara and The Ballad of Elisa Lam. Those songs are very much where we are now musically.

What makes Ohmwork unique?

Nyrud: The bass player of course… duh…

Rasmussen: Ha-ha! Helge is a very special and unique guy. Every band is unique in their own way. Music is unique, it moves people in a special way. It triggers every emotion. Music that a band makes is the real deal where a bunch of people make magic together.

Any future plans you can already tell us something about?

Nyrud: For now, we attempt to do as many live shows as possible. Been a long time now…

Rasmussen: Our new album Pareidolia is well under way! Release is August 27. And yes, get out on the road promoting it!

Any upcoming gigs for Ohmwork? Maybe coming to The Netherlands?

Rasmussen: We are planning a tour in September-October. Still there are so many uncertainties due to the pandemic but fingers crossed!

Nyrud: We would love to come to The Netherlands. Never been there, so that would be great. One hopes this horrid pandemic comes to an end, so we can go out and tour again.

How do you think your life would be without music?

Rasmussen: That would have been a very dark place to be. Emptiness. Music is one of my biggest joys in life and my creative output.

Nyrud: For me, I’ll would go mad. Completely bonkers. It’s an important part of our lives. I’m thinking about music all day.

What advice would you give to young and starting bands?

Nyrud: Be patient. Rome wasn’t built in a day. It takes endless hours at the rehearsal place and in the studio, and all you get is five people in the audience. It’s tempting to think “fuck this…”, but in the end it pays off. So don’t give up.

Rasmussen: Yes, patience is important. But still, hurry slowly. When opportunity knocks, take it!

Thanks for your answers! Is there anything you want to say to DutchMetalManiac’s readers?

Nyrud: Hope you guys enjoy our new album, and we hope to see you one day on the road. Horns up!

Rasmussen: Check out our music and visit our website for more action!
