Interview: Stonebrother

Recently, DutchMetalManiac’s Tim van Velthuysen interviewed Stonebrother.

Hey, how are you?

Zach: Excellent. We have a few new projects in the works that we can’t wait to share with the world.

Can you tell us something about the history of Stonebrother?

Zach: Ethan and I are brothers and we grew up playing music together. Leo was introduced to us by a mutual friend, and we instantly clicked. We have been together writing songs, recording, and playing whenever possible for the past five years.

For people not knowing Stonebrother (yet), how would you describe your music yourself?

Ethan: I would probably describe our music as the middle ground between modern and classic rock, but in a way I don’t believe any other band is doing.

When someone doesn’t know Stonebrother yet and you can choose one of your songs to present yourself, which song would that be?

Leo: Of our currently released music our song Problem Child is the best presentation of our versatility and style in one song. Hoping to do a music video for that one soon.

What makes Stonebrother unique?

Zach: We combine the raw energy of punk with the more refined technicality of classic metal, with a nice healthy dose of rock n roll.

Any future plans you can already tell us something about?

Ethan: Later this month we’ll be working on a music video for our song Problem Child, and we’re in the process of looking into a potential tour next year, but aside from those it’s all writing and looking for the next show.

Any upcoming gigs for Stonebrother? Maybe coming to The Netherlands?

Leo: Mostly local shows, one at Gus’s pub in August. We probably won’t be able to make it to The Netherlands anytime soon unless there’s a crazy turn of events (especially with covid), sorry!

How do you think your life would be without music?

Zach: Dull. Music has been a huge part of life for me since I was born, so I really don’t know what else I would be doing if not that.

What advice would you give to young and starting bands?

Ethan: If you’re just starting out my advice is this; there will be times where you’re writing and you’ll just hit a total block. In those moments, it’s best to just get something down as a place holder and work it out later. Better to have a song finished and need a couple tweaks than a project on hold because something isn’t quite right. Just keep moving forward and you can always go back later. Aside from that, the best thing you can do is always play from the heart and feel everything you do.

Thanks for your answers! Is there anything you want to say to DutchMetalManiac’s readers?

Zach: Support local music, and keep doing your part to help pull the world out of this pandemic. If you’d like to check us out, we’re on social media as well as most major streaming services.
