Review: Amoclen – Diagnosis: Grindcore

Together Ibalgin (vocals), Zyrtec (bass/vocals), Psychopax (guitars) and Paralen (drums) are the Czech band Amoclen. Amoclen was formed in 2006 and released a split with Belgian band Agathocles in 2008, Amoclen’s part carrying the title Smecta. This split was followed by Cymbalta in 2011. In case you don’t know what style of music Amoclen plays, this will probably be very clear by looking at the title of their new album, Diagnosis: Grindcore. Yes, Amoclen plays grindcore.

After the Czech spoken intro, Amoclen bursts out with Amoksiklav. Pounding drums, heavy guitars and vocally higher shouts as well as low growls. Especially the higher shouts sound extremely raw and misanthropic, which perfectly combines with the low growls and pounding instruments. This all of course goes at a very high tempo. This tempo only gets a bit slower on a few moments, like for example in some parts of Haldol and Aripriprazol.

In case you wonder what Amoksiklav means: it is the name of a medicine. All tracks on Diagnosis: Grindcore are titled after medicines, with the intro, the intermezzo and a cover being exceptions. The intro and the intermezzo are just titled Intro and Intermezzo. The track Amoclen covers is a song in a grindcore way that originally comes from a very different corner of music. It is a track called At je hudba tvuj lek by Czech pop group Lunetic.

Diagnosis: Grindcore contains mostly very short but heavy tracks, as is common in grindcore. In 21 minutes, Amoclen pounds an intro, 12 tracks and an intermezzo through your speakers. The earlier-mentioned cover and Parolex are the only two tracks spanning over 2 minutes. Amoksiklav is, aside from the intro and intermezzo, the shortest track on Diagnosis: Grindcore with its length of just 43 seconds.

On Diagnosis: Grindcore Amoclen delivers a very big dose of energy. After listening this album many people probably need some rest.

Amoclen delivers a very nice album full of grindcore with Diagnosis: Grindcore, which is very recommend for all grindcore-fans. So, you dig grindcore? Be sure to check Diagnosis: Grindcore by the Czechs of Amoclen and be warned: you will be blown away!
