Interview: Stone Sea

Recently DutchMetalManiac’s Tim van Velthuysen interviewed Stone Sea.

Hey, how are you?

Doing alright, thank you so much for asking!

Can you tell us something about the history of Stone Sea?

Stone Sea was originally formed in Brazil around 2013 by vocalist and guitarist Elvis Suhadolnik Bonesso, the band released the debut album Origins in 2015. Shortly after, Elvis moved to Ireland, where Stone Sea became a 3-piece, and recorded their EP’s Vaporizer and Mankind Maze.

The bands name is comprised of two words that oppose each other completely. ‘Stone’ symbolizes inner strength and steadfast elements in our lives, and ‘Sea’ represents life’s ever-changing and dynamic nature. Our music reflects these ideas. Highlighting the contrast between strength and submission, stability and fluctuation; Stone and Sea.

For people not knowing Stone Sea (yet), how would you describe your music yourself?

Alternative/stoner rock with pinches of world music in between. But it’s never a precise description. We rather let the public decide what they think it is.

When someone doesn’t know Stone Sea yet and you can choose one of your songs to present yourself, which song would that be?

That depends on the persons mood, if the person is feeling (or wants to feel):
Powerful – Mystify
Sorrowful– Flow Upstream
Light Hearted – Prelude
Hostile – Seeing Red
Lysergic – Dream Song
Those are all songs that are in our EP Mankind Maze, pick and check it out!

What makes Stone Sea unique?

Our magic comes from the mix of world music with our own blend of alt./stoner rock. We feel there’s a great connection between music from the root of civilizations and a crunchy and obese instrumentation. Plus, we get something out of every spectrum of emotion and transform it into waveforms. I’m sure you can swim in one of these waves.

Any future plans you can already tell us something about?

In fact yes, we are about to release the Dream Song music video in September. It’s an alternative version of the song as well which makes it more special.

We also have some new songs we are planning to record until the end of the year, so we might be releasing something new soon enough.

Any upcoming gigs for Stone Sea? Maybe coming to The Netherlands?

That would be great! In fact, we will be touring to promote our next album, so we might get there by next year if things get back to normal.

How do you think your life would be without music?

Boooooooooringgggg (laughs). But honestly, imagine this: watching every movie, TV show, documentaries, playing every video-game, going to every party, gig, theater, social event, making food, taking a shower, having sex, walking, driving, travelling around, no buskers, jam sessions, dancing (would it even exist?). How colourless life would be.

What advice would you give to young and starting bands?

Be constant, learn music production, music business, learn how and where to market and sell your music, learn how to book gigs and tours by yourself, don’t be afraid of committing mistakes or talking to people you don’t know, once again be constant, but above all, dive deep into yourself and look for your own sound, your own uniqueness, singularity and you’ll know where and how you should go.

Thanks for your answers! Is there anything you want to say to DutchMetalManiac’s readers?

Thank you so much for the opportunity once again! Just leaving here the links to our music and social media.

We hope to see you all there. Welcome on board!
