Interview: Diseased Earth

Recently, DutchMetalManiac’s Tim van Velthuysen interviewed Diseased Earth.

Hey, how are you?

Doing quite alright, hope things are well on your end as well.

Can you tell us something about the history of Diseased Earth?

Diseased Earth started back in 2014 as a project with some musicians from several former local bands that had broken up and we all kinda just gravitated towards each other to form something different than was in the area at the time.

For people not knowing Diseased Earth (yet), how would you describe your music yourself?

It’s really hard to put us in one box, for the most part we call our music death sludge. It’s cause we take traditional sludge and combine it with heavy death and grind influence.

When someone doesn’t know Diseased Earth yet and you can choose one of your songs to present yourself, which song would that be?

Hmm, that’s a very hard question. Our sound tends to be all over the place and especially with some of the newer material we have been writing. We do have a brand new single Coven of Leeches that I would say might be a good place to start.

What makes Diseased Earth unique?

As I said before, our approach to music is definitely a little unique. Our sound is so much of our own, that there isn’t one band you can sit down and be like that’s who we sound like. From sludge to grind to doom to even some stuff that sounds like that of late 90’s/early 00’s Amphetamine Reptile Records bands.

Any future plans you can already tell us something about?

We just released a brand new single Coven of Leeches and we have plans to go back into the studio with the same producer, Buddy Harlow, to record three more songs.

Any upcoming gigs for Diseased Earth? Maybe coming to The Netherlands?

Unfortunately, the pandemic is still raging on, so no plans for any live shows. We hope that things get back to normal sooner than later. It would be amazing to get overseas, especially some of those big open air festivals you’ll have.

How do you think your life would be without music?

It would suck haha. Playing and listening to music is extremely important to my mental health. Our guitarist Paul said it best “playing music keeps the sad away”.

What advice would you give to young and starting bands?

Just fun with it, don’t worry about sounding like anyone or anything. Just get together and enjoy it. Also lose the ego, it will do you no good.

Thanks for your answers! Is there anything you want to say to DutchMetalManiac’s readers?

Check out our new single Coven of Leeches, it’s available on all major streaming platforms. We appreciate the interview and hope everyone stays healthy and happy.
