Interview: Evereal

Recently, DutchMetalManiac’s Tim van Velthuysen interviewed Evereal.

Hey, how are you?

Great! Thanks for inviting us. We are honoured to be part of DutchMetalManiac.

Can you tell us something about the history of Evereal?

We are a Vancouver based metal band that debuted in 2017 with our first full-length album and signed a distribution deal with 7Hard Records in Germany. The band recorded their full-length studio album at Turtle Studios in British Columbia with engineer Larry Anshell. The band caught the attention of famed RUSH artist Hugh Syme who signed on as artistic director for their debut release and merchandising. The band raised 10K through a successful Go-Fund-Me campaign for help in completing the CD.

Their debut single Sinful debuted in Amazons Top Ten Metal charts while the release received positive reviews in many websites and magazines.

The original line up consisted of Stephanie Neufeld, Stephen Roberts, Gord Esau, Rob Queen and David Bevis. Rob left the band shortly after the album release and was replaced by Nelson Bennett. Stephanie and Dave left a short time later to pursue other opportunities.

Singer/songwriter Alicja Moniatowicz was then recruited for the project and brings a new flavour and sensibility to the music of Evereal. She was the perfect fit for Evereal. Both Moniatowicz and band leader Stephen Roberts are fans of symphonic metal which comes through in their writing: heavy metal guitar riffs and drums underlying a sonic quilt work of strings and piano.

In 2019, the band began writing and recording new material. The result is a new four-song EP, entitled Falling Down, and two new music videos.

For people not knowing Evereal (yet), how would you describe your music yourself?

It’s a collaboration of different influences. While you can obviously hear the metal and symphonic qualities it also plays off old school metal, pop, rock, piano and prog. So when you listen closely it is composed of layers of sound weaved together in a sonic tapestry. Definitely something for fans of various genres.

When someone doesn’t know Evereal yet and you can choose one of your songs to present yourself, which song would that be?

When you’re gone from the last EP is by far the best selling and most popular song. We are particularly proud of it as we spent a lot of time putting it together and rewriting the melodies to get something catchy and emotional.

Never Enough is our more socially aware song touching on the tragedies of addiction. The video really puts the song into context.

What makes Evereal unique?

We don’t take ourselves too seriously and write what we want. We don’t write music to fit any particular genre or appeal to a specific audience. We write what we feel at the moment and put it out for people to enjoy with no expectations. This gives us a wide variety of sounds so you won’t find every song sounding the same and cut from the same formula.

Any future plans you can already tell us something about?

Absolutely! We are working on new music including cover tunes. So you should see new music this year along with more videos and pay per view live performances.

Any upcoming gigs for Evereal? Maybe coming to The Netherlands?

We would LOVE to come to The Netherlands! Can you make that happen? But seriously we would love to come and play there and meet the fans. It is well known The Netherlands really like their metal and are among the best and most endearing fans in the world! We hope to see you soon.

How do you think your life would be without music?

Boring and soulless… Music is that one thing that can change your mood, bring you out of the darkness, lift the spirits and touch the soul. Life without music is like summer without sunshine.

What advice would you give to young and starting bands?

Learn to play your instrument properly, practice hard and have fun. Play what you feel and not what you feel others want you to play. Find a good group of players and stay together and make it work. Learn how to get along and check your egos at the door of the rehearsal space. Be respectful of each other.
