Interview: Freedivers

Recently, DutchMetalManiac’s Tim van Velthuysen interviewed Freedivers.

Hey, how are you?
Can you tell us something about the history of Freedivers?

At the end of 2019, I had some interesting riffs and lyrics, but I needed someone to help me keep going. I met Sergi, I proposed my project to him and we started working together, then Xavi joined us and the band was ready.

For people not knowing Freedivers (yet), how would you describe your music yourself?

Our music is indie/rock/pop with a touch of grunge. As a band, we are influenced by the Seattle sound of the 90’s from bands like Stone Temple Pilots, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains and others. In terms of lyrics, we tell personal stories that we believe our audience can relate to.

When someone doesn’t know Freedivers yet and you can choose one of your songs to present yourself, which song would that be?

Maybe Walking Upside Down is one of our favorites.

What makes Freedivers unique?

Well, we believe that each band is unique. For its members, its influences. In our case, it is also like that. Each band has its own story.

Any future plans you can already tell us something about?

Oh yes, we are working on a new 5 song EP, and we have recorded a couple of videos that we will release very soon.

Any upcoming gigs for band? Maybe coming to The Netherlands?

Well now the pandemic situation has made any touring plan very complicated. But we’d really like to do some gigs in The Netherlands, for some reason, that’s where our main listener base is, and we’d really like to perform live for them.

How do you think your life would be without music?

I think that for any of us it would be complicated, music is very important to us, we cannot conceive of life without music.

What advice would you give to young and starting bands?

Go step by step, do not go to the next level if the previous one is not firm enough. Rome was not made in a day.

Thanks for your answers! Is there anything you want to say to DutchMetalManiac’s readers?

We would like to thank the DutchMetalManiac staff for giving us the opportunity to be here, and their readers, asking them to pay us a little attention and listen to our music. Who knows? Maybe they like it.
