Interview: Starcrazy

Recently, DutchMetalManiac’s Tim van Velthuysen interviewed Starcrazy’s vocalist Marcus Fraser.

Hey, how are you?

Hi there, I’m very well thanks, apart from the fact that it’s been raining non stop here in Sydney for about 5 days! Rural NSW are struggling with a plague of mice and spiders, it’s a worry for farmers, quite crazy out here right now!

Can you tell us something about the history of Starcrazy?

We formed around November 2019, we just wanted to be in a band that made rock ‘n’ roll fun again y’know? Make the audience smile, make it heavy, just have fun! The lineup:
Marcus Fraser (myself) – vocals
Odin Wolf – guitar
JB – bass guitar
Jack Farmer – drums

For people not knowing Starcrazy (yet), how would you describe your music yourself?

Like a mix between Jane’s Addiction and Cheap Trick.

When someone doesn’t know Starcrazy yet and you can choose one of your songs to present yourself, which song would that be?

It would be a newer track called The Big Time, but as far as something from the debut EP, I’d say Long Way Home

What makes Starcrazy unique?

My voice is pretty high and an acquired taste I’d say… but also, our sound is kind of an amalgamation of a lot of different influences; Odin and myself are all about 70’s glam rock and late 80’s metal for the most part, JB loves Silverchair and into a lot of shoegaze type stuff at the moment (plus a plethora of other obscure stuff) and Jack also has quite a varied taste, he’s slamming to Tears For Fears and RUSH right now though…

Any future plans you can already tell us something about?

We’re hitting the studio again this June as we have some great new songs we need to get down, and looking to do an Australian East Coast tour this year, now that restrictions here have eased… would love to hit the road opening for a band like Airbourne!

Any upcoming gigs for Starcrazy? Maybe coming to The Netherlands?

Next gig is April 9th at The Great Club in Marrickville, and then Anzac Day (April 25th at The Duke in Enmore, can’t wait! (These are both in Sydney)

We would be over the moon to travel to your beautiful part of the world, perhaps within the next 2 or 3 years we can make it happen! Not until we have a full length album out though…

How do you think your life would be without music?

Dull, uninspired, y’know…

What advice would you give to young and starting bands?

Enjoy yourself, make music for yourself, no one else!

Thanks for your answers! Is there anything you want to say to DutchMetalManiac’s readers?

Stay metal, stay safe and check out our EP on Spotify or Bandcamp, you won’t regret it!
